Pipeline

Perenco Guatemala operates a 475 Km pipeline (12" and 10") and six pumping stations, transporting oil from the Xan field to the Piedras Negras Terminal.

As the pipeline passes through a number of environmentally sensitive areas, its integrity is of paramount importance. The pipeline management plan is based upon extensive risk analysis designed to minimize the risk of any spill. An extremely thorough maintenance programme, consisting of both internal and external corrosion monitoring using the latest MFL techniques, visual inspections, ongoing applications of protective coatings, a cathode protection system and the regular servicing of the concrete support structure.

All of Perenco's field personnel in Guatemala conduct specialist training courses in H2S, oil spill (on water and land) and fire fighting, amongst other scenarios. Furthermore, the repair crew is specially trained to change pipeline segments using Open Pipe, Hot Tapping and Stopple Fitting techniques.
